It’s December 2018 and the twelfth season of the mega Indian Premier League is already knocking our doors. A lot has happened in the past 11 IPL seasons. Records have been broken, new records are set, a couple of match-fixing scandals tampered the reputation of the league, the two champion teams were suspended for two seasons, a player got slapped, players got arrested, and what not. In IPL 12 too, you will see a lot of new things, especially the new IPL 2019 squads.
Yes, you heard it right. While the new team saga began from IPL 10, some franchisee team owners still haven’t found the right balance in their team squad. Hence, there are already some players released and a few retained prior to the scheduled auction in the third week of December 2018.
With the likes of David Warner and Steven Smith still not given the green signal by the Australian Cricket board, thanks to the sandpaper scandal, their respective teams are already in doubts whether they should be hopeful or look for the alternatives.
On the other hand, there have been some surprises for the fans in the respect to the IPL 2019 squads as the teams have made some tough decisions to let go a few class players from their respective squad.
Despite the doubts on their availability or authority to play IPL 2019, David Warner and Steven Smith have been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals respectively. Well, that’s the class of these two players in World Cricket and at the IPL. The surprising move from Sunrisers Hyderabad came when they traded the in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan with Delhi Daredevils in exchange for three Indian domestic players.
With Dhawan filling the role as opener, it came as no surprise that Gautam Gambhir was released by Daredevils who made the switch to DD from KKR only last season. Although it may not be a surprise, the move to release the World Cup Hero of 2007 and 2011 Yuvraj Singh by Kings XI Punjab made the top headlines.
